The Truth About “A.K.A. Jane Roe”

A new documentary on FX purports that Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff “Jane Roe” in the 1973 Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that decriminalized abortion in all 50 states in all stages of pregnancy—lied about being pro-life after all. The main irony of this is Norma was used as a trophy by the National Abortion Rights Action League and by Texas law school graduate Sarah Weddington who trawled for pregnant women looking for abortions—and who successfully brought the case to the Supreme Court. None of her 2017 obituaries mention having been phony as a pro-lifer. None of her close friends in the pro-life movement buy any of this nonsense Posthumously, Norma is being used by the producers of a very deceptive FX documentary, titled “AKA Jane Roe,” which I review in this video.wo.

Points Covered

How can the makers of “AKA Jane Roe” say with a straight face that they did not exploit and manipulate Norma McCorvey in her very last days?
If the pro-life movement “wrote checks to her” and told her what to say, as the documentary claims, do they expect the audience to believe that Norma did the many interviews for free and got absolutely no coaching to get across the narrative they wanted to tell?
Pretend Norma McCorvey was simply a very good liar to both sides of the abortion battle. At best, it’s a wash. It has nothing to do with what an abortion is, and whether it kills an innocent human being.
This film exploits a fragile, broke, vulnerable woman, shooting her breathing with great difficulty, making sure her oxygen tube is working with sound editing amplifies her labored wheezing.
The camera records her final good-byes and I love yous on her deathbed, and…they include footage of her corpse at her funeral. An outrage.
Ex-pro-life leader, now Never Trumper, Rev. Rob Schenk comes off as smarmy and self-serving, apologizing for what “we” did to women like Norma. As Tonto said to the Lone Ranger, “Who do you mean we, paleface?”
Rev. Schenk is now the kind of evangelical the NYT, CNN, and NPR can get behind. Which is to say, he lost his way.
